End of Year Letter - June 2010

Dear Fusion Friends & Families,

As summer is upon us (hard to believe!), I am feeling compelled to shout…

THANK YOU!

…for participating in our first months in Los Angeles! It feels like just yesterday that we were opening our doors here at Fusion Academy, but that was back in February!

I suppose mid-February seems an odd time of year to open a school, but as we got to know the community in Los Angeles we were repeatedly asked to get here as soon as possible. In an effort to meet your needs, we packed up our beach towels and left sunny San Diego for the vibrant energy of Los Angeles. Some of you remember our little space, suite 104, which we naively thought would hold us until our permanent campus was ready. As it turned out, we had to move within a month, and hire and train more fantastic teachers, to enable us to serve the constant stream of students knocking on our door. We have been so fortunate to have such a beautiful temporary space to camp out in these past months, but boy are we excited to move into our new, custom space on JUNE 28! Yes, it’s official. We will be having a formal celebration in mid-July, tentatively July 15. Please stay tuned for more information.

Our first months at Fusion saw rapid growth and a diverse and wonderful mix of students experiencing real success at school. Fusion LA students took charge of their educational experience and we love that self-empowerment! They collaborated to create a fantastic and thought-provoking mural which they are now using as a backdrop for their yearbook pictures. At our students' request, we facilitated their organizing of the first Fusion Student Council and they promptly planned a Spirit Week, which we definitely interpret as a good sign! We also had an incredible day journeying together to San Diego to meet our sister school, and those brave enough took a fly on the trapeze. Now that’s an amazing first semester!

What will this summer and fall hold for Fusion Academy? We can’t wait to find out!

Sincerely,

Grace Losada
